The Brooklyn Academy of Music has been around for more than 150 years, bringing together top artists, both local and global, to perform theater, music, opera, dance and much more.
I saw the Mariinsky Ballet from Saint Petersburg (check out the Mariinksy Concert Hall in Saint Petersburg) perform Swan Lake and it was beautiful. The ballet took place in the Peter Jay Sharp building of BAM. The sight lines and acoustics of the theater are wonderful.
Until May 2017, BAM Rose Cinemas will be featuring live transmissions of The Metropolitan Opera’s productions. This season’s productions include (among others): Eugene Onegin, Rusalka and La Traviata.
There is also a BAM cafe/bar where you can grab pre-performance dinner and drinks. If you don’t feel like spending money on a show, the BAM cafe has free live music most Friday and Saturday nights! They also screen films and have events (talks, comedy shows, galas) during the week and weekends.
