I do not care if it is cold outside and the wind is howling in my face, if I crave a Salty Pimp, I am going to get my Salty Pimp!
Let me explain.
In the June of 2009 co-founders Doug Quint and Bryan Petroff debuted their ice cream truck featuring over-the-top cones and crazy concoctions while still preserving that old school ice cream truck feel. It was a hit here in New York City, and everyone flocked to the truck wherever it was.
However the truck was seasonal, and people desired their ice cream year-round. So the duo opened their East Village location in September 2011, then their West Village location in December 2012. You can usually find me at the slim storefront of the East Village.
Now about the ice cream. I mainly want to bring their specialty cones to everyone’s attention. They have creative names, like the Mermaid, American Globs, the Cococone, and, of course, my favourite: the Salty Pimp cone. The Salty Pimp is soft serve vanilla ice cream, dulce de leche, and the entire thing is dipped in chocolate. “But why is it called the *Salty* Pimp then?” you may ask. Well in this entire mixture they add in a little sea salt. The salt enhances the flavour of every ingredient while not making them overwhelming.
