Boa Mistura Street Art – South Slope Street Art

Brooklyn is known for having great street art, but the neighborhood of South Slope did not have too much impressive wall art until the Spanish street art collective, Boa Mistura, came to town. Along with an exhibition at Open Source Gallery, Boa Mistura went into the neighborhood and painted four big murals around the neighborhood, all with lyrics from Brooklyn native and hip hop icon Notorious B.I.G, with the help of local volunteers.

Two are located on 17th street, one on the corner of 5th Ave and one on the doors of Open Source Gallery on the corner of 6th Ave. The other two are located on two opposing walls at the underpass of the Prospect Park Express way at Prospect Ave and 3rd Ave.

The uplifting quotes and bold colors really bring a new life to the streets of South Slope. These murals celebrate all that makes Brooklyn wonderful – diversity, music, and art – and always bring a smile to my face.
