Whole Foods Market is a popular natural grocery chain in the states. There are a few stores in the city, but the Bowery location is one of the calmest, making it my favorite.
The upstairs seating area has dozens of communal tables, couches, and floor-to-ceiling windows, making it a great space to do work or grab a bite to eat. The communal tables give you the option of befriending a stranger but New Yorkers also understand if you just feel like keeping to yourself.
When exam time rolls around I can be found here, usually at the same table, studying and snacking away. It’s pretty convenient because if you get hungry while working you can just hop one floor down to get some food. The upstairs also has a stand where you can get salads and other goodies.
My favorite time to come here is right after opening. The store is just waking up, sunshine is flooding in through the windows, and the staff are eating breakfast before heading downstairs for their shifts. It’s a perfect setting for a relaxing breakfast.
Just a heads up: the bathrooms require a code – printed at the top of your receipt – to get in. The code is changed every month.
