Before going to this restaurant, I had never eaten Venezuelan food. After eating here, I can say it is one of my favorite cuisines. Arepas are a kind of corn-based dough that is cooked and then stuffed with different meats, vegetables, cheeses and sauce. It is a very popular dish in both Venezuela and Colombia. Caracas Arepas Bar has a wonderful assortment of arepas along with mouth-watering appetizers, like homemade chips with guacamole and several different kinds of fried plantains (my favorite are the yoyos!). Not only is the food delicious but the service and atmosphere is also great.
They have two locations in New York, one in Williamsburg Brooklyn and one in the East Village of Manhattan. I have only visited the one in Brooklyn, but there is a great bar upfront with amazing cocktails and a cozy little outdoor patio in the back, which is perfect for hot summer nights. If you are in the neighborhood of either location, I would highly recommend going and trying out a fun new cuisine!
