City Island may as well be a crustacean oasis!
City Island could possibly be its own borough, but is located in northeast Bronx. The island is reminiscent of a small fishing village because of all the boats and sea fresh air. Only 1.5 miles long and a population of a little over 4,000, City Island is like a mini getaway because of how far north from Manhattan it is and not the most easiest place to get to compared to the rest of New York City. However, the travel is well worth it especially if you’re a seafood lover.
City Island is filled with decadent seafood restaurants. From lobster, crab, oysters and clams…it’s all here. Choose from cafeteria-style food joints selling fried shrimp and stuffed clams like Johnny’s and Seafood City or gorge on a sit-down meal at Sammy’s or Lobster House.
Walk off all the seafood and daiquiris for some ice cream at Lickety Split, browse the cute antique shops along the island or just rent a boat and take it out to shore.
A trip to City Island can easily be made into a day trip because Orchard Beach is right next door (for those planning for the summer). Fun tip: Watch the film City Island starring Andy Garcia before going. It’s always fun to spot places and scenes from the movies.
