Espo’s Art World – Former street artists’ shop

Espo’s Art World, formerly known as ICY Signs, is a little art studio/shop owned by former graffiti artist Steve Powers. ESPO was the name that Power’s used while tagging in both New York and Philadelphia. He is now known for making big graphic, word-based murals and signs, often highlighting the romantic side of a city or of life. He has done work all over the world and you can still see some of his signs around Coney Island and Brooklyn.

He opened up this shop in Brooklyn in order to make his art more accessible to the public. You can often find him in there working on screen prints or doodling on the back of someone’s purchase. It is a very welcoming atmosphere and is a great way to get unique art for a reasonable price. I have bought a couple of small items from him and hang them proudly on my walls.

It is always refreshing to find artists who engage with the public and genuinely want to be a part of their neighborhood. It’s places like this that make New York so special.
