If you love pizza like me, then you would travel way out of your neighborhood to taste all of the best slices around the city. Case in point: L&B Spumoni Gardens located in Bensonhurst in the far reaches of Brooklyn. They offer a regular slice, but here you want the Sicilian square slice that is covered in tomato sauce. It’s tasty but very different from most of the other pies I like at places like Patsy’s (check the Patsy’s article) or John’s of Bleecker Street that have coal ovens.
If I’m feeling like a full meal with a carafe of wine, I’ll sit in the casual dining room. However, the most entertaining spot to sit is in the outdoor “garden” (aka a concrete patio) if the weather is nice. They have plenty of picnic tables where you can sit down after you order at the window. The line can be long, so make sure to come ready to wait. Last time I was there at 17:00 and it was still a 15-20 minute wait! But with pizza this good for this cheap, it’s no wonder they come from all over to get in on the square pizza action.
