Rintintin – Late-night bistro with palm trees

So many New York restaurants have a Mediterranean menu – too many, in fact, that the word has almost lost its meaning. Rintintin is a Mediterranean restaurant in Nolita that makes sense.

The airy, white-washed space accented by palm trees has scattered tables and booths, open for lunch, brunch, dinner and, thankfully, a late-night food menu until 01:00 daily.

With several small plates under $10 it’s a great spot to start with dishes to share, from the Baba Ghanoush (charred eggplant, tahini, olive oil) to hummus (with lemon, garlic and green chili). My favorite is the famous Rintintin burger served on pita bread with chipotle aioli, fried potatoes, homemade ketchup and harissa.

For a more authentic Mediterranean meal, try the whole grilled fish of the day with lemon, sage and kale, or the vegetable, chicken or lamb tangines served over couscous with homemade harissa, chermulla and Ras el hanout.
