To be quite frank if you weren’t paying attention you could easily miss this unassuming deli under the Amtrak railroad track-bridge. The right window is lined with fresh baguettes, while the left has the portraits of the three owners: Sal, Kris, and Charlie. Since opening their place these three men have become icons, kings, of Astoria.
Their shop has been cranking out subs, heroes, and sandwiches of all shapes and sizes for as long as I can remember. They’re resident favourites – no matter what time they’re open there’re always people lined up to get something. Their best seller is simply called the Bomb. For $ 9.50 you get the kitchen sink and that’s actually not a hyperbole. In the Bomb you get every kind of meat they have, multiple cheeses, lettuce, tomato, the works. It’s a foot long (roughly 30.5 cm for those outside the US) and as thick as a built man’s arm. Honestly you could eat it throughout the day it’s that big of a sandwich. If you want a meal fit for a king, eat a hero made by the kings themselves.
