There is so much art and culture to see in New York, it can be overwhelming at times. Many of the big name museums can be very crowded and expensive, and for me it can often be not the most fun or relaxing experience. That is why I love finding smaller art institutions such as The Drawing Center. Located in the heart of SoHo, this great little museum is affordable and is always showing interesting work. When an institution focuses on one specific medium, it can be really interesting to see how different artists push the boundaries of what, for example, “drawing” means to them and how it influences different art practices.
The Drawing Center also does a lot of great school programing for the community and they often have different workshops open to the public. They also have a really wonderful selection of books published by the museum that are definitely worth looking through. I always leave here feeling inspired.
