So first of all you’re probably wondering what on this lovely Earth is a kickshaw. It’s a word that dates back to the sixteenth century that essentially means a fancy, foreign, but small cooked dish.
I think that was the vibe this restaurant was aiming for. The items on the menu are not that large in comparison to other places, but they are certainly not lacking in flavor. The Queens Kickshaw is famous for their grilled cheese and you have a half dozen options to choose from. I always find it amazing how a place could receive such a reputation from, really, such a humble dish. Yet these are not your college-made grilled cheeses. Artfully crafted, all of them unique in its own way, each cheese paired expertly with a different condiment. I know it sounds weird going on about grilled cheese, but these guys know what they’e doing.
This relatively small, trendy restaurant is also known for their huge list of drinks, ranging from coffees, cocktails, beers (draught is changed daily but bottles are consistent), and wines. The latter two’s list is also drawn from both foreign and local markets. People go back time and time again to find their favorite drinks and how to pair the with each grilled cheese. If I may, I suggest everyone should try and do the same in this little gem.
