A study by Columbia University, shows that metros produce quite a lot of sound – on average 80 Db. Sometimes as much as 100 Db! (to compare: my favorite Amsterdam club produces is only allowed to produce a maximum of 95 Db I think.) Professional subway-riders supposedly use earplugs to avoid hearing damage.
