Torggata Bar is to Tilt as St. Paul is to Minneapolis. Whereas Tilt (check the Tilt article) is the one who is always there for you, the one you can’t keep away from even though you’ve been firmly put in the friend zone, Torggata Bar is the hot-and-bothered siamese twin out on a Friday or Saturday night who – with stylish drink in hand and an extra button undone – is feeling a bit loose and grabs you for a dance. I have a confession to make; I’ve never been to Minneapolis or St. Paul, but if they’re anything like what I describe above, I can’t wait to visit.
Torggata Bar and Tilt are attached at the waist, but head to the door to Torggata Bar and you’ll find it’s only open on Fridays and Saturdays. It ups the ante on Tilt’s normal offerings with a separate bar catering to those who like mixed drinks in addition to wine or beer. Make sure to put on your dancing shoes as you’re likely to be seduced by the mixings of a DJ filling the house with “danceable soul, funk, boogie, R&B or disco”. If you’re drawn back to games and beer, just hop back into Tilt.
Torggata Bar is located in what used to be a bathhouse modeled in ancient Roman style. This gives Torggata Bar a very special feel as well as some special nooks where my friends and I like to sit and check out Tilt’s wilder twin beckoning us to boogie.
