When you head into Nord at Grunerløkka you will be hit by a hearty scent of fresh roasted coffee and newly baked bread. Then you’ll probably look up on the wall and spot the large blackboard showcasing the local farms where the bakery sources its flour.
In addition to only using the best flour, the bakery prides themselves on their coffee – roasted by the fast-expanding local chain Nord. But it’s not really the coffee (nor the amazing package design), but the sandwiches I go there for. The “old classic” is my standard choice, and omitting the ham I get a double dose of Comte instead – one of the best sandwich cheeses there is!
If you’re more up for something sweet, Grunerløkka bakery serves up the best bolle in town. The bolle is a Norwegian classic: it looks like a bread roll, but it’s sweet and moist – a must when visiting the country.
The space feels very airy and modern, with light coloured wood and turquoise touches, making it a great afternoon hangout.
