Oslo Mekaniske Verksted is located on Teaterplassen in Grønland. It used to be a welding workroom before, now it has become a bar. Outside you’ll find tables and benches, once you step inside the door you’ll encounter a mix of a bar and a home with a fireplace. If you drop down onto one of the couches with a cup of coffee and friends, or with a good book and a glass of red wine – you may feel like you are at home. It is a mix of different flea market furniture – from small tables, chairs, armchairs and couches lit up by funny lamps.
There are books you can read and different kinds of table games to play. At the bar you can buy soft drinks, coffee, wine and beer. If you are hungry, you can order food from one of the restaurants around. Just ask for take-away menus in the bar.
The music is not too loud, and during the week, it is usually played at a comfortable sound level. Friday after work and Saturday evenings, it may be a party atmosphere, with a lot of people coming straight from work to enjoy the start of the weekend, or people having a pre-party before they continue to clubs later on.
This is the perfect place for a quiet night in town during the week to meet friends or do some writing, and a good way to enjoy your favourite takeaway food in a home away from home.
