Schouskjelleren – Beer choices are plentiful

Recently this microbrewery opened in Oslo, or better said reopened brewery, since it is located in the same place as the old Scous Bryggeri about which you can read on wiki in Norwegian. Kjelleren means cellar and that’s exactly what the place is – a brick walled cellar, with a big fireplace, low lighting, long tables and couches along the wall, beer barrels all over the hallways, no music (one of the best ingredient of an evening when you only want to chat with your friends) and obviously, beer.

Lots of beers. We have tried a draught ones initially, a Stout and a Pale ale which were produced by the afore mentioned brewery. Quite decent stuff and interesting taste. Then we discovered the menu which is not recommended for those with heart problems. But it lists a bunch of stuff from different countries, stuff that I’ve never heard of and that I’d love to try provided I win the lottery. Googling the place afterwards, I found out they are even serving beer giraffes. I personally tried an 11% Caribbean Rum Stout which was a rather interesting experience for my taste buds.

The place seems ideal for cold winter days, since it gets very warm inside, depending on the fire intensity. Hence, being down in a cellar and due to its brick walls, it’s also very suitable for chilling on a warm summer day. Either way, one visit was enough to put the place at the top of my favorites.
