A brand new ‘bar’, if I may call it so, opened in June 2010 in Brjørvika, Oslo, a stone’s throw away from the Opera house, on the other side from Oslo Train Station. What makes the place special is its location. Right by the sea shore. It is like a small island and offers a splendid and relaxing view towards the fjord.
And even if in the middle of the city, once I set my foot there, I no longer feel like being in a capital city. Nor in a city for that matter. And it’s perfect for a cold drink in the warm Norwegian summer days. There are plenty of benches outside too, on the asphalt, a small stage next to them, a wide area covered with grass where you can just bring your blanket and relax under the sun. Make sure to check the website for the events hosted here.
The ‘inside’ is made of huge tents, some of the original ones having been used to form a pepper cake house in the winter in Bergen. You can enjoy a wide range of IKEA sitting ‘facilities’, from sofas, wooden or plastic chairs and there’s a stage inside from where loud music will probably make you forget about sitting.
Being an open air bar, it closes in September so don’t miss the chance to see it by then. Plus it is owned in collaboration with Øyafestivalen so it might offer surprises related to this big event in Oslo.

Hi Emma,
I am more than happy to hear about people discovering places in Oslo due the tips we give them here. I hope oyu had an enjoyable stay in Oslo and that you’ll use our website in all cities you’re travelling to.
regards,
Andrea
We only spent 3 nights in Oslo but enjoyed Sukkerbiten so much we went twice. Easily spotted from the Opera House rooftop, we wandered down and enjoyed a few beers in some comfy chairs by the water.
It was only when we were leaving after our a second visit that I spotted a delicious bowl of prawns – I’m sorry I didn’t spot the delicious looking food from the start.
It was only due to the recommendation on Spotted by Locals that we tried this out so thank you!
