I love a terrace-pavement, by which I mean a pavement with a few chairs on it outside a bar. There’s something marvelous about the constant risk of falling in the road and the necessity to sit almost uncomfortably close to your own and other people’s friends. Anyone would think I crave attention… Anyway, unlike some of Montmartre and the nearby Sacre Coeur, the Rendez-vous is scarcely tainted by the hoards of tourists. At first glance, the cool air of the place and almost exclusively French crowd can seem a little intimidating, persist though and you’ll find the atmosphere rather more relaxed and friendly. Happy Hour (20:00 – 22:00) sees beers (pint) at €4.00 and a bottle of house wine (50cl) at €8.00. Baguettes as long as your arm packed with meat, cheese or paté cost €4, salads are €8.00 and charcuterie/cheese boards are €8.00 to €10.00. On weekends bands play (anything from chanson to jazz-funk or rock) in the low ceilinged back-room – entrance is usually free. To sum up, Au Rendez-Vous des Amis is just that, a low-key venue, a lovely spot to have a drink with friends and a likely place to make some new ones. Details about this spot (Show on map)

What a lovely story… so glad you’ve loved it too!
Just back from Paris . . .was hoping to visit this pub and stumbled down a hill and found it and only realised the name after my first beer. This bar fast became my favourite spot. The beer is relatively cheap 5.00 euro a pint and the sandwich platter is exceptionally good value at 8.00 euro. The atmosphere is something else! The staff make it all happen – with a friendliness that was unmatched. To give you an idea – I walked in to the bar and a local (Nelson) bought myself and my wife a beer. (no strings) I never saw him after the first night so I’ll have to catch up on another trip.
If you get to Montmartre – check this bar out, you won’t be disappointed. We finished off last night, partying with a group of Spaniards/Peruvians and French guys and the party would not have stopped but for the fact that we had a plane to catch the next day!
Wishing all the staff and customers our best wishes (especially Miguel).
Johnny and Annemarie.
Au Rendez-Vous des Amis could also have been named Rendez-Vous des Artistes. You’ll find locals, students and budding artists, simple but delicious sandwiches and a very uncomplicated and friendly atmosphere.
The interior and lunchtime atmosphere looked and felt like someone who had partied a longtime the previous evening and was waking up slowly to the disorder. Expect dirty floors, unshaven chins, creatively mixed clothing, friendly people and touches of chanson française.
