Cox – Paris’s gay art-installation bar

Thursday evenings are pretty much spent (or lost) at Bar Cox which is found along Paris’s main drag of gay bars; and stands out above the other hangouts as the place that’s a bit more ‘show-off’. And for good reason!

Mainly, its management continues supporting new DJs and weekly-themed DJ sets. Also running a visual arts program that showcases non-apologetic and pretty much ‘queer’ mise-en-scenes; each piece eventually auctioned-off to punters, the kitty (euros) going to LGBTIQ+ charities.

This spot’s creative ambition makes for a traditional meeting-space-cum-bar known for bear hunting, twink scouting, or getting the heads-up on the latest leather fetish trends. Girls are welcome too.

The servers are super friendly – these days they know I’m usually after a bottle of Pelforth Brune.  Friends through seem to favour pints of Desperado on tap (‘pression’ in French). Spot a crowd spilling into the street? Then it’s obviously happy hour!
