As the humid summer haze takes its hold over our city, if you can’t find a spot on a cafe terrace (or just want to avoid choking on passive cigarette smoke) the vast outdoor spaces are rather precious.
Ground Control is an annual, fleeting street food/bar/music venue that takes over an empty space in the city during the summer. This summer’s chosen spot was previously a post-sorting office on rue de Charolais just by Gare de Lyon.
Kid-friendly during the day and buzzing in the evening, as a local, you’ll probably bump into at least one person you know (my personal record is 4), as this is truly “ze place to be” this summer!
Perch around a table with your friends and soak up the atmosphere – enjoy the vegetarian burgers, patisseries or hot dogs and pick up a pint or an ice-cold bottle of rosé to battle the summer heat. Surrounded by olive trees, water features and pop-up stands, you’ll soon forget you’re in the centre of Paris, and be able to unwind after a long week.
P.S. Go during the day or early in the evening. If you go in the evening, you should be prepared to queue a good half hour!
