Finding the perfect spot for an afternoon snooze or a peaceful stroll is no easy task in a city as densely populated (or strict about the enjoyment of grass beyond merely observing it) as Paris. But committed as I am to these simple pleasures, I’ve left no stone unturned in discovering some of the finest spots in the city.
Remarkably tranquil given its proximity to the bustling Place de la Bastille, the Jardin de Bassin de l’Arsenal is a delightful oasis of calm in a frequently hectic and pollution ridden district of Paris.
There’s also a restaurant/café at the Bastille end of the garden with a terrace overlooking the garden and canal.
For amazing views of the city and the islands from water level, walk with the water on your right, heading away from Bastille towards the Seine and take a right under the canal bridge from where you can walk along the banks of the Seine all the way back into the centre.
