Kathryn Frengs (1979)
Background info
A native Californian (hailing from Los Angeles, to be exact), I studied Literature and Political Science as an undergrad which led me to an extremely fun and challenging early career in American government and politics. However, since my first trip to Paris as a 17 year old, I always had a nagging feeling that I wanted to live here.
I decided to follow my dreams when I packed my bags in 2006 and started a Master’s program in International Business. Through the internship that was a part of my graduate program, I was able to find a permanent job in Paris and was thrilled to be able to extend my stay that was originally planned to be a lot shorter!
Since then, I’ve been having lots of fun exploring the city and surrounding areas and always love discovering new things.
Why Paris?
It literally started with Madeline. No, really – the children’s book that I used to read as a little girl. I couldn’t get enough of the stories and from then on, the idea that I would one day live in Paris was planted firmly in my head. I started studying French around age 12 and am so happy to finally be able to put it to good use!
Now that I’m here, my favorite things include:
- Street art in the city, especially the Space Invaders
- Café culture – lingering at a tiny table with friends
- The transportation system – bus line 63 is my favorite with a view of the Seine, Assemblée Nationale, Les Invalides, the Eiffel Tower and more!
- The cuisine – tons of restaurant choices from all corners of the world!
- The ability to discover something new and wonderful around every corner
I can’t wait to share some of my favorite spots with the Spotted By Locals readers!
