You’ll be able to spot this homely bistro from the end of the road, thanks to the welcoming glow of the multi-coloured light bulbs crowning their rich yellow awning.
Whatever the weather, L’Ebauchoir is always bustling with the warm chatter and laughter of families, businessmen, friends and lovers alike, sharing deliciously, intimate moments huddled around their little wooden tables.
Let me introduce you to their menu… an unpretentious mix of French home cooking which playfully marries locally sourced meats, fresh fish, vegetables and fruits. The current stars of the menu include duck with chestnut honey and roast lamb with a parmesan cream. I’ve never been disappointed by a single dish here; meats cooked to perfection in ideally-sized portions and just the right amount of sauce.
Along with its sister wine bar Le Siffleur de Ballons, which I also highly recommend, L’Ebauchoir stocks an abundance of wines (including 100% natural wines) for your perusal. Picking your table’s wine can be a daunting task when faced with the vast catalog of a wine list, however, all you have to do here is tell them your budget, what you like and what you’re eating and an attentive member of the Ebauchoir crew will happily advise you.
Tip: Try one of the wines of the month at the back of the wine list! Order a bottle and only pay for what you’ve drunk (à la ficelle)…
