It is when I discover places like these that I am reminded that I should always, always take some time to wander around the city without any particular plan, because that’s usually how I stumble upon little surprising gems.
This unlikely shop is located in the picturesque 5th arrondissement of Paris, and is just a block behind some commercial streets, which makes the place a bit difficult to find. The entrance looks like a 18th century painting, but as soon as I entered I noticed the owner of this place prefers a different area: the walls are filled with psychedelic rock posters.
Now, I have to admit that the psychedelic rock era is not necessarily my favorite of all time, but the owner told me how these posters were inspired by the Art Nouveau era, a link I had never made that made me look at it at a different way.
Other than a poster gallery, it is a bookshop, selling (mostly) second hand books that relate to illustrations in their broadest sense. Many books are in English, and many are from the second half of the 20th century. Although you could say that they are rather collector’s items, little creative things like artsy Paris maps are being sold, too.
And, should psychedelic rock posters be your kind of thing, do not hesitate to ask the owner to have a look at the gallery in the basement – it’s a true surprise!
