When in Paris it is not unimaginable that you might want to buy a decent bottle of wine. But what is less evident is finding a good wine seller that honestly wants to sell you the best wine in any price range.
When you look at the blog of this shop (in French) it becomes clear straight away that the staff is truly passionate about what they are selling, and that they are in it for many more reasons than commerce. Besides their many writings about wine and independent producers, you will be welcomed by classical music when you enter their little domain in the Montparnasse area.
This is for a reason: Mi-Fugue Mi-Raisin is named after a French saying that expresses something that is nice on one hand, but a bit bitter on the other. In the case of this shop I cannot imagine it is meant to represent something bitter, but rather it means to express the shop owner’s two passions: wines (raisin) and music (fugue, which means two melodies intertwining). While selecting the right bottle for the occasion you can also buy the music to go with.
I don’t usually have a big budget, but the staff is always happy to help me find a little bottle for a dinner or party. Another plus: their late opening hours, which makes them the ideal spot for passing by just before your dinner party!
