Avillez is one of the most famous chefs, with several restaurants in Portugal, and one in Lisbon has been rewarded with a Michelin star, more than once.
Recently he opened Cantinho do Avillez in Porto, and although this one does not have a Michelin star, service is super friendly, the space is cosy and relaxed, and dishes are unbelievably amazing. I’m a huge fan of this fusion restaurant, feeling welcome every time I come back. They serve simple dishes with a special twist making it a must.
It’s kind of divided in two connecting rooms, and until recently I always asked for a table in the room with the window facing this typical Porto street, but last time I sat at a table facing the kitchen and, trust me, it was such an amazing experience to see all the organization and dedication of the chefs with a constant smile on their faces, even though it was a Friday evening and people were arriving for dinner until very late.
I’ve tried several dishes by now, and my absolute musts are the foie and ‘peixinhos da horta’ (typical Portuguese) starters, scallops risotto or the codfish main course, and without a doubt the chocolate for dessert. This chocolate surprise is a total winner for me! Did I mention the butter on the couvert? Simply the best!
Very useful; on weekends they are open all day long, ideal for late lunch and on weekdays they have an economical menu for lunch.
