There are a lot of things that make me love Casa de Pasto da Palmeira. The first and most obvious one is the place where it is, with that beautiful view of the Atlantic Sea, the River Douro and Gaia. The sunsets there are just magical experiences that everybody should have at least once in their life. The second one is the seasonal menu. It’s not very normal to see this in Porto and it’s a great idea, especially because they keep the pearls of their menu all year around. Last but not least, the food is wonderful.
Their menu is basically modern Portuguese tapas and you have everything from alheira to seafood with the occasional sandwich (hamburger or prego). One of the best things is what they call “o bolo de chocolate da Sandra picante” (Sandra’s spicy chocolate cake), which you can see on the image. It’s very, very good and I think everyone should give it a try, even those who are not crazy for spicy food – like myself.
Keep in mind that they don’t accept reservations and debit/credit cards. You need to withdraw cash at a nearby ATM. For me, it’s a restaurant that can be a bit pricey, especially because the tapas plates are not very big and by Portuguese standards the tapas are not that cheap to begin with. Nevertheless, it’s an amazing place to have lunch/dinner or just to satisfy any craving during the day.
