Well, I love pizza (real pizza, not the fast food one!). Some time ago, I got to know and try the pizzas from Pizzeria Pulcinella. I’d been told that not only were the pizzas delicious but also that the pizzeria “always” had a queue at the door to eat in. Both were true…
They don’t take reservations, but you can give your name to the hostess and maybe go for a sea-side walk for 30 minutes (or more…), especially during the weekends. At least that’s what I did.
The founder and owner Antonio Mezzero claims to be the only real Pizza Master (Maestro Pizzaiolo) in Portugal. It’s probably true, but he’s from Naples (southern Italy), where people boast a lot, although he can boast as much as he likes as he has legitimate reasons to do so!
The menu doesn’t have countless pizzas and ingredient combinations, but the 8-10 they have are really worth it. There are extra ingredients you can order. The pizza dough reminded me of those I’d eaten in Italy (flavour, consistency) and the topping (salami, sun-dried tomato, parmesan) was very very tasty (although this combination can be a bit heavy).
The “antipasti” seemed delicious as well, but this time I ordered home-made tiramisu for dessert (uau!).
Finally, the pizzeria is in Matosinhos, but close to Porto (15 min walk from Foz – Edificio Transparente) and a 5 minute walk from the ocean front.
The owner recently opened a smaller restaurant in the heart of Foz (Largo de Nevogilde 51). Beautiful neighborhood!
