Situated near São Bento rail station, right in the heart of Porto, Rua das Flores (flower’s street) is the place to be and it doesn’t matter if it’s morning, afternoon or night.
Recently most of the buildings were renovated, keeping the typical Porto’s facade, but the new colours and tiles have given the street a second life. It’s absolutely beautiful, and you should pay attention to the small details (eg: the electricity boxes all decorated in different styles, from drawings to sentences in the characteristic Porto dialect). It’s a perfect place to walk and feel Porto. You can find all kind of cafés, restaurants, shops and even small museums on this street.
At the start of the street I especially recommend Nata, because the entire world really needs nata (a custard egg pie that is one of the most traditional Portuguese sweets). Usually you can discover some street musicians on different parts of the street and you can appreciate them while you relax in one of the cafés or really while you walk – it’s like your life has a soundtrack! At the other end of the street there are a lot of restaurants and I personally think everybody should go to Cantina 32, where the food is perfect and you can have a beautiful lunch or dinner. An absolute must.
So relax, breathe in Porto’s mystique and take a walk down Rua das Flores. I guarantee you’ll fall in love with Porto in no time.
