Here’s an ode to the decadent, thick, dense hot chocolate from The Traveller Caffé.
A good hot chocolate is not the easiest thing to come across in Porto. My hunt for the perfect one has been going on for a while now.
As far as I’m concerned, the ultimate hot chocolate needs to stand on its own – no cream, no sprinkles of any kind, no added flavors. Those should be optional. The ultimate hot chocolate should have that lovely, rich cocoa flavor, shot with the right amount of sweetness, that flawlessly creamy consistency, thin enough to drink from the cup, thick enough to use a spoon if you want to. Mouth-watering already? I am!
The hot chocolate at The Traveller Caffé is pretty close to perfection.
In a rainy, gloomy afternoon in Porto, a cup of delicious hot chocolate and a warm, cozy, slightly Parisian atmosphere is just what you need. If you’ve been strolling up and down Rua de Santa Catarina doing some shopping, take a break and go to The Travellers (yes, we’re on a first name basis). Ask for the dense, thick hot chocolate – if you’ve got a really sweet tooth, the cupcakes are pretty amazing too – sit back in one of the comfy chairs by the window, where you can see the passers-by and soak the chocolate deliciousness. You won’t regret it.
