Lori and Dean are the foodie pioneers who started The Tavern a while back, and brought the burger into its own here in Prague. So, imagine how excited we all were when they bought this old Žižkov pub (dating from 1907) and Dean swore he’d bring out his persona Sticky D – an American BBQ master who also loves beer. And they did it – a total revamp of the interior has made it super pleasant, and non-smoking as well. They always have tank Gambrinus on tap for a mere 24kc, plus feature several special beers on rotation. There’s a small permanent food menu that includes kick-ass burgers, Sticky D’s famous BBQ’uesadillas (quesadillas slathered in pulled pork), mega-nachos and more.
But the real treat is when Sticky D gets that smoker fired up and sets to work making true meat magic. That kid knows how to slow smoke some meat, and his ribs are probably the best in town. This long-time Prague-basec American couple are at the forefront of the new Prague food scene – marrying Czech and American traditions into a very welcome new thing.
Really – every time my wife and I pop in here for “just a drink or two”, we end up staying for hours, chatting with friends, sampling beers and basically just enjoying the hell out of ourselves. And on one of the nights that BBQ is on offer – well, let’s just say that I can’t see my feet afterwards.
