Whenever I go out for lunch I generally try to steer clear of places serving food I can make at home myself. Since I’m not much of a cook this basically means avoiding places that make pasta. After trying out La Camille, however, I’m now pretty sure that I’ve been making that wrong too.
La Camille is one of the best new spots I’ve found lately, serving fresh Italian pasta with different vegetables, meats and sauces at fair prices (around CZK 100) with generous portions of food. They don’t have a fixed menu, usually offering a choice of three daily variations of pasta, out of which one is usually vegetarian (and if not – just ask and they’ll make you a special one). They also have a great offer of pastries, if your hunger still hasn’t subsided. My absolute favourite is a “knoflík” (meaning “a button”) – a round pastry filled with cream cheese and apricots.
Located just a few steps from Anděl, Prague’s business hub, La Camille gets pretty busy especially around lunch time when it fills up to the brim with shiny men and women in formal attires, descending from the nearby office buildings. If you get over having to wait a while for a seat, it’ll be well worth it, as the nice folk at La Camille will serve you a simple yet delicious bowl of Italian goodness.
