Some years ago Andrejsala was a very popular place amongst young people at heart and soul. Many art and cultural events were organized, mostly of underground or non-commercial nature.
Sometimes it feels that the place is a bit forgotten and neglected, but it still has great charm – when you wander between its old buildings, crazy graffiti, and sweet memories. Recently some new restaurants have opened here and I wonder if Andrejsala will get back its popularity!?
Andrejsala has a different kind of charm compared to the rest of the city but it is definitely worth it to give it a try.
Some of my favorite spots on the island are: “Bufete” – a small, comfy canteen which is hard to find but when you do it’s worth the effort. Also, I like the very tip of the island’s Northern part – it can be a bit of a dodgy place but it is the best for enjoying those fabulous sunsets in Riga or to get a little glimpse of how Riga Port is behaving.
If you have an adventurous spirit the place can be interesting all year long, at least for me it is, as all my favorite spots here are doing well no matter the season.

This place is not boring at all – it’s a very cool place to walk around, especially if you like industrial style urban decay!
well… it depends from what you are willing to use the place for. In wintertime it’s more peaceful so the charm of it is a bit different but the sunsets are still there and the port is running and so does the canteen. So I think it still can offer some nice moments despite the low-season.
i wanted to check this place but was told that it’s quite boring and empty in winter, so guess some other time
