Out of the Riga center and into the wiiiiild! Not the party wild, this time. The nature wild. Mežaparks in Latvian means “the forest park”. It is a very interesting place for at least a day for 3 main reasons:
1. The Zoo – if you love animals and nature, do not hesitate to visit the Riga Zoo. A taste of childhood for you and a new taste for your child – guaranteed!
2. The Estrade – this is a “must see” spot of Riga. If you pass the zoo and go down the tree alley that leads you into the (promised) forest, you will at some point reach the outdoor estrade – this is the place where Latvians get together at least once every 2 years to sing and dance. Check the photo – I am in the front dancing, while a huge choir of 10 thousand people on the stage and twice as many singing and enjoying music in the audience.
3. Mežaparks is the home of rather well-off people so if you go down the small streets you will be able to enjoy a mixture of architecture (depending on the century or decade the owners of that particular house were especially wealthy).
