Koka Rīga – Wooden architecture

The area of Grizinkalns is simply amazing. Lots of wooden houses from the 19th century, quiet streets and almost no tourists at all.

Koka Rīga is a Centre dedicated to the renovation of wooden buildings. It is located in a typical workers dwelling house that has been renovated. The Centre is divided into several areas – there is a museum, a room for seminars and exhibitions and an information Centre. From time to time flea markets are held here. If you are interested the dates are posted on Facebook or on this blog.

For a long time I was avoiding the vicinity of Grizinkalns as it was considered to be a bit dangerous. Now I look at it like a hidden gem and I am starting to enjoy it with every new walk I take there.

By all means the neighborhood is worth a visit and if you need or want more guidance about it, then Koka Rīga is the spot to seek out.
