When you say ice cream the first thing that comes to my mind is cafe Leduspuķe. (Leduspuķe translated to English means ‘Ice Flower’.) This venue has been one of the most popular ice cream shops for decades and it has not lost its quality ever since.

To my mind it serves the best ice cream in town. It’s homemade –  always fresh and delicious. Nothing like that can be bought in supermarkets. I especially appreciate this cafe in summer, because there is nothing better than a sweet treat on a hot day.

This shop offers a variety of different and unusual flavors, for example, peppermint, vanilla with raisins, oatmeal, sunflower/honey, toffee and many more. My personal favorites are toffee and marmalade, I just cannot resist them when I pass by Leduspuķe. Of course there are some more traditional flavors too like vanilla and chocolate, but its worth to give a shot for something new and unexpected.

This place was spotted by a good friend of mine. She took me there and said that this place should definitely be in Spotted by Locals! So here we go!

The spot is a wonderland of homemade ice-cream – “Skrīveru Mājas saldējums” – in the silent center of Riga.

The city of Skriveri (the place where the ice-cream comes from) is rather far from Riga, but if you have time you can definitely visit it (for more information see the homepage). In cooler days you can sit inside the cafe and have a glass of wine or a cup of coffee with a suitable ice-cream, recommended by the ice-cream specialists. Or you can take the ice-cream and go on a walk down the Alberta street (see the article!).

You will find a great variety of ice-creams, including some rather nontraditional like pepper and horseradish ice-cream (it must be a matter of taste and readiness to experiment, but I did not really like those). My favorite one in here is called “Putna prieks” (“The joy of a bird”), and of course there are all the traditional tasty ones made of different berries.
