Miit is all about bicycles, a combination of a shop, cafe, workroom and a parking space. It’s a cozy place with wooden ceiling, fixed gear bicycles here and there (on the walls, in the corners) and a public who prefer bikes to other kinds of transport.

It’s a place to have lunch (12:00 – 16:00), to hang around, to glance through a copy of Kuš! that might have been left on your table. To experience those fantastic pancake Saturday mornings from 12:00 till 16:00.

I love to reward myself from time to time with a fine day here at Miit just for relaxing and chatting with some old friends of mine. It should be considered to take part in any of those cool events here with DJs playing and people celebrating life or anything else they have.

Late Saturday morning and it’s raining, but not a lot. The streets are quiet and people are hiding somewhere or have left city for a weekend in countryside.

My rain jacket is reliable, and so are my wife’s and son’s jackets. Despite the fact there is no sun and the weather is a bit chilly for this time of a year we are enjoying our family walk through Agenskalns. It’s a fantastic place to wander and wonder around.

There is a cute wooden house with welcoming wooden doors. Open it and what a surprise! Fazenda – a cozy cafe that feels more like a lovely Grandma’s house from my childhood memories. With freshly baked cakes and cookies as well as meals cooked from locally grown products, it made my day.

Fazenda was almost full and the folks seemed joyful and happy there. I was pleased to share that feeling and the lemon tart at the end of our lunch almost made me sing in the rain heading back home.

Bergs Bazaar is definitely one of my must-experience tips in Riga. It can be easily called the spot of the spots as within it you can find many attractions but each of those deserves a separate post but I will try to describe the place as a whole.

Bergs Bazaar lies in the very center of Riga, not far from old town, the central railway station and my place. The thing I love about it the most is that when you enter calmness surrounds you, even though there are public places almost in every doorway.

No cars are allowed here so I can let my little son run freely without a worry. It is always clean and a very romantic place for an evening walk when the lights are turned on.

Not to scare you with quietness of this beautiful place, many happenings are held here constantly. For example, you can visit the Slow Food Farmer’s market and the antique market on every second and fourth Saturday of each month, from 09:00 to 15:00.

Many locals including me come here to purchase some quality food or just to spend an enjoyable morning. Summertime encourages every cafe to bring out some tables for guests to chill and enjoy this beautiful bazaar at it’s best.

Riga Terrace has been in the headlines since it opened in 2010. Due to its area (3000 m2) this is the biggest open air restaurant and bar not only in Latvia, but in the Baltic States as well. Almost every weekend fashion shows, live concerts, DJ performances and other special events take place here.

In my opinion this is undoubtedly the trendiest terrace in Riga. It is situated on top of an 8-story shopping mall in the city center. This place offers a variety of ways to please your taste. A sushi bar, a grill bar, a cocktail bar and a sun lounge, hookahs and cultural events will entertain its visitors throughout the summer season.

On a careless evening there is nothing better than coming to the Riga Terrace and rewarding yourself with some delicious treat. And don’t be afraid of windy weather – warm blankets are available daily.

On a day when I was left alone in Riga I finaly dicovered buffet Silts (translation – warm). I knew that the place existed for some years and heard that one can get a really good and decent lunch there but somehow I passed it or forgot about it.

So, on a day when I was left alone I finally arrived there to have a meal. What I saw was that folks were leaving the place as the daily special lunch offer was gone already (don’t make the same mistake I did – arrive early). Still, the menu was ok with me and I did enjoy my meal.

Usually I don’t like eating alone but as the buffet was quite busy and the interior oozed warming vibes, it did not bother me at all.

I had a great time with myself and a Latvian style or home like meal with a fresh glass of beer. Not too fancy or simple, just the way it should be and when I left I had this feeling that I will return for a warm lunch someday soon.
