Splendid Palace is not a common cinema. It is located in a historical building, decorated in the shapes of rococo. A truly beautiful peace of art, this is the first cinema in the Baltics that screened sound movies.
Splendid Palace is a member of “Europa Cinemas” and CICAE. This grants for us the superb possibility to enjoy some meaningful quality films from famous film festival award winning directors like Lars von Trier, Kim Ki Duk, Joel and Ethan Coen etc. or from local producers.
Another great thing is that cinema takes the risk to play documentary films. Even some theater and concert shows are programmed. Maybe you are interested in getting to know Riga better by viewing the informative movie “Riga Story”? Check the schedule for times it is screened.
All this and also the amazing concept of not selling popcorn before shows makes the place truly enjoyable even without mentioning the polite and intelligent people that appreciate this special cinema.
If you decide to give it a try please definitely catch the movie in the large Hall. You will be blown away, by how glamorous the auditorium is. Just remember to arrive early before lights are switched off for better views.
After the show, well… it’s nice to have some thoughts, some discussions about the movie. So why not to have a glass of wine to sharpen that up? Try TINTO (check the article) the closest spot to my favorite Splendid Palace.
