Search Rome

so why do you have to “stay more than just a weekend”? couldn’t find the information “below”.
would love to try these bikes, but only in rome for 2 nights…
thanks for all info!!
Hi Dina,
To be able to use the service, you have to registered through a PIT (Point of Touristic Information), located in town (mainly in the city centre).
Registration procedure may need some time, to fill in due forms and adquire your credit card details.
Most of the people who just spend in town a weekend do not feel like spending time at a PIT (not much, but a “distraction” if you are not staying in the city centre and want to see as much as possible in such a short time – a weekend is defenetely veeery short for Rome), and this is why I recommand it mainly to those staying longer.
But…your hotel may be located just opposite a PIT, and allow you a quick solution.
Whatever you decide…enjoy your stay! You’ll just love the city.
Barbara
I’m happy to see that the use of these bikes is also for visitors, and dot only residents…
Last year in August I had a strong discussion with people at the PIT because this service was only for residents, while operated by Touristic Point !!! Typical Roman paradox, I guess…
Ciao Fred,
Regarding your comment: apart all unrational service regulation, the time necessary to open up an account for the purpose of bike sharing at a PIT may discourage those who are not resident. Anyway, the service (which is currently still in a “beta test” phases) is due to be soon fully re-organized (or, at least, this is what the municipality claims) and I do hope it will be implemented following the Lion or Paris model. Anyway, keep reading SpottedbyLocals: any news will be announced!
hi! thanks for info. So as of January 2010, if you are not a resident, can you still acquire a card? where can i get it? is it fairly simple? thank you so much!
Ciao Masha! Once in town, please turn to a PIT (Punti di Informazione Turistica, Tourist Info Point) there are 8 in town and one in each major aiport (Fiumicino and Ciampino).
Yes, anyone can now use the service but, again, it’s far more convenient if you are staying for a few days rather than just for a very short time, as registration procedure may take some time (credit card involved).
Anyway, I still believe it’s a great way to move around, as well as a strong signal of our will of a car-free city so, please, go for it!
