Once as I was walking along the tiny streets behind Piazza Navona, I came across this very hidden restaurant. Ristorante Il Fico. I took note of it and the next time I had to take someone to have a meal out and I was nearby, I came here. The first thing I noticed was the cozy and genuine atmosphere inside.
I ordered some pasta. I didn’t expect anything special. The place, to be honest, was not crowded at all that noon. That can mean two things in my opinion. First one, no one comes here because the food isn’t good. Second one, the people do not come here because they do not know the place. To my satisfaction, the right reason was the second. The pasta (tonnarelli cacio e ricotta) was just superb. Just as my Mum would cook it. The service was excellent and the bill reasonable. The menu isn’t too sophisticated but dishes are very good. Since then, this spot has become one of my favourite meal spots. I take tourists here, now and then. And they thank me for that very much.
If you are up for a not very touristic restaurant in Rome, which is very hard to find, with freshly prepared food and not the frozen one you usually get, do come here at least once.
Enjoy your meal in Italian style!
