Fish is one of my favourite dishes. So if you like fish and like eating in the open air go to A La Plancha. A pop up restaurant started by a man living near the river on the Noordereiland. He saw the opportunity to make use of the obsolete bridge head of the old Willemsbrug, replaced in 1981 by the new one, the red bridge crossing the Maas lying next to it (at the right in the picture). Every summer A La Plancha pops up here serving around 300 people a day on a large terrace near the river. The menu is very simple, four kinds of fish and a few side platters, a dessert, and that’s it. Which makes it easy to choose, no endless menu to leaf through not knowing what to choose.
I like A La Plancha because it has an edginess which is in my opinion very authentic. There is no toilet so when you have to use a toilet you have to leave the restaurant and go to the bar nearby (Vista Lounge) which is an experience in itself. The fish they serve varies but I really liked the sea bass last time I visited A La Plancha.
So if the weather is fine, preferably real sunny, check the website to see if they are open and have a taste of a grilled fish with a nice glass of cooled wine.
