Along the river Maas, in a former tropical swimming paradise (known as Tropicana) from the ’80s with waterslides and such where countless kids spent their time swimming and caused mayhem, you now have Aloha Bar, part of Blue City. Check the video explaining a ‘circular economy’.
The Aloha Bar/Restaurant/Coffee/Terrace is situated in and around the small section of the former in/outdoor pool.
Wherever you look you’ll see elements from the past integrated into a retro style interior and exterior with a tropical touch. It gives the Aloha Bar, with its amazing terrace (with swings for two) facing the south part and overlooking the river, an already unique atmosphere in Rotterdam.
Indoors there’s a huge coffee-roaster where Brazilian and Ethiopian beans are roasted on the spot for their Aloha Bar coffee – beans are for sale.
This place is spacious and there’s enough room inside to find a spot to work, have a quick coffee or enjoy a meal. Meet up with friends and find yourself in a holiday spirit while drinking a cocktail and listen to music and soak up the (wintery) sun.
My fave spot is on the right in front of the window with plenty of sun rays.
The restaurant renewed their menu. They work with fresh organic ingredients from local suppliers like neighbouring Rotterzwam and city beekeeper Bouna. Check the menu for a small snack or for a bigger appetite. Plenty of events happening too.
