Cafe-restaurant De Tuin (The Garden) has one of the most beautiful views in the city. Situated directly at the ‘Kralingse Plas’ (check the Kralingse Plas article) and within ‘Het Kralingse Bos’, nature doesn’t get any closer. At De Tuin you can enjoy a drink or have lunch/dinner inside and with good weather the terrace is open.

From the terrace you can see the skyscrapers of Rotterdam and even the tip of the Willemsbrug. When there is some wind or even a little breeze the class of the local yachting club will sail with dozens of boats on the lake. I love this sight whilst drinking my hot chocolate behind the glass wall near the water.

On Sunday evening De Tuin offers live music with a lot of different styles ranging from Jazz, Dutch Hits to House music. Check their website for any updates or announcements of future bands/artists playing.

De Tuin, in the middle of the most beautiful garden, is the perfect place for me to relax or enjoy a beautiful Sunday in Rotterdam.

Located on the Kop van Zuid, the LantarenVenster stands out from the other theaters in Rotterdam. Lantaren Venster has a very modern interior but with a wide variety of (cult) movies and jazz music, you will get the classic feeling of visiting an old movie theater.

Situated between the classic harbor warehouses, modern flats and the harbor it is typical Rotterdam. In the vicinity you also have the Rijnhaven Round (see the Rijnhaven Round article) and Hotel New York (see the Hotel New York article).

The movie theater offers movies which usually don’t show in the more commercial theaters. Every year during the Film Festival Rotterdam a lot of people will visit the Lantaren Venster for the first time, and so did I. There is also a cafe-restaurant with special breakfast-movie or dinner-movie tickets! I found it pretty cool to have breakfast first and then watch a movie on a beautiful Sunday morning.

Together with the jazz mini concerts I think the LanterenVenster is a great place for a night out.
