Crooswijk is one of the poorest districts in the whole of the Netherlands. Nevertheless, poor people often claim that though they have no money, they have a lot of love in their hearts and that it is often very cosy at their homes.
So Croos (pronunciation: Crows) claims to be the cosiest place in Crooswijk. Indeed it is a little gem in the battered streets of the quarter. This is not the districts where the young urban professionals walk the street and here you won’t find pop-up-stores and trendy boutiques. This is in the midst of old-fashioned Rotterdam mixed with urban Rotterdam. Croos is a quiet little place where families come to have a coffee.
I visited Croos at the opening of the annual art weekend called the Kunstroute (art trail) when it was crowded with art lovers. But they do a lot of concerts too, on Sunday afternoons – nice little musical performances by local artists.
