Just a little walk away from my home is the De Watertoren. It is located in a water tower, and not just any old water tower, no, it is the oldest water tower still standing upright today in the Netherlands. Built by architect C.B. van der Tak, it was ready in 1874.
When our children were small and we didn’t want to go far when looking for something to eat instead of cooking at home, we often went for a short stroll to De Watertoren. That’s long ago now but it still is a very good restaurant. Nice and cosy, small, with not too many tables and not too many dishes.
Not too many dishes is always a good sign for a restaurant because this means everything is freshly prepared. French and Mediterranean is the style and they serve dishes like baked liver, which I like very much, and is not very common in restaurants in the Netherlands.
If you are less close to De Esch you can reach De Watertoren by water taxi too since it is located near the Watertorenhaven.
