In this small pub you can find all kinds of people, a reason for me to go there. The vibe is just really nice, even though it can be very crowded inside. This pub is open till late, so you might see the sun come up when you were just going to have one drink!
Since smoking isn’t allowed inside anymore, De Witte Aap has built a permanent terrace with heaters on the pavement right in front of the pub. A very smart thing to do I think. Smokers happy, the pub is extended and it always looks as if there are lots of people there.
Every month the pub offers an artist to show his or her art here. So you could come home a bit drunk and an art collector.
The Lonely Planet has voted ‘De Witte Aap’ the best pub in the world in 2010. Lets see what they do the coming years…

Nice pub but not the best in the world…
I was in Rotterdam for 8 days visted this pub daily. A must see pub great service and servers and everyone wants to help you enjoy your stay
Agree with Dare-N and Max, trust me when I say you can skip it.
I can not see how this bar became the best bar in the world? (Seriously, in the world???) Its an ordinary room, expensive and always too crowded. The crowd is pseudo fashion, wannabe hip but not quite making it. Its a very fake place to be in my opinion.
It used to be one of my favourite places to hit the morning light. It was a very nice pub indeed before the Lonely Planet rated it as the best pub of the world. It lost it soul, it’s just a too small place for too many people. Nowadays I pass it and try an other place closeby which is a good alternative – Tiki Bar.
Nice pub. We were there during the day, and the atmosphere was already very good! But the beers were expensive! (A Brand pilsener 2,80 Euro!)
