It was only when I walked into the food & gifts shop Foodelicious for the first time that I realised doing an olive oil tasting could be so much fun. An assortment of almost 30 different olive oils from all corners of the Mediterranean provide a whole range of flavours. It almost feels like selecting a wine to match a dish. Next to olive oil, of which all of them are self-imported, they sell over 80 kinds of vinegar, all based on their own recipe and a large collection of self-made chocolate of extraordinary quality; no wonder since the owners are descendants of the Specker family, a legendary patissier in Rotterdam.
I also like the gifts which ensure you never arrive empty-handed at a party anymore. In the tastefully decorated store you can buy a lot of local products like Rotterdam cheese or waffles but also all kinds of teas and condiments or food related gadgets.
They also have an online shop, but nothing beats the feeling of being carried away to sloping olive fields of Tuscany or the suggestion of entering a Basque pintxo bar, only by having a couple of spoons of oil.
