Jackie Chan is my favourite action hero. He’s got the moves, the humor, the stunts, everything. Especially the stunts. And the site of what many call “the world’s most dangerous stunt” is just a couple of blocks from my doorstep. The stunt comes from the movie “Who am I?”, which was partially set in Rotterdam.
What I find funny is that the movie was filmed mostly in Rotterdam, but parts of the city featured as Johannesburg as well. And apparently, the reason so many Rotterdam landmarks are included in the film is that Jackie was walking around town during production breaks, and changed the script constantly to film more of the local architecture!
If you, like me, are a fan of Jackie, make sure to re-watch the movie before coming to town. When in town, see if you can find all the filming spots! Even if you don’t spot them all, trying to find them makes a very nice walk along most of the city centre highlights. The spotting is challenging though – since the filming many more high-risers have been added to the constantly shifting skyline Rotterdam is famous for. It’s called Manhattan-on-the-Maas for a reason!
