The Dutch weather can be pretty unpredictable, therefore it’s not a bad idea to plan some indoor activities. Just hop into some of the many amazing spots. LantarenVenster is one of those spots to go to when you don’t feel like being outside.
LantarenVenster is a cinema located on the Wilhelminapier somewhere between De Rotterdam and Hotel New York. Start off with a brunch in Hotel New York, watch a movie at LantarenVenster and finish with a gin & tonic at the NHow bar in De Rotterdam (check the NHow terrace article). Rainy weather? What rainy weather, you just had an great day.
LantarenVenster is a cultural center hosting film and music since 1949. In October 2010 it moved to ‘de kop van zuid’ and entered a brand new location including a terrace on the waterside with a view of the new floating forest (check article: Dobberende Bos). I prefer to come early and drink a cup of coffee in the lounge area or outside with some sun. No big lines, no entrance where you’re forced to pass popcorn machines and other sweet stuff – it’s about feeling at home and watching a good movie you won’t find in the other cinemas in Rotterdam.
Keep an eye on the agenda, they host several short festivals with themes such as Latin American movies or Japanese blockbusters. Check their website to find out what’s coming up.
